PRAISE NEWS

Edition 57 - June 2024

We have a lot to share in this newsletter, but we'll keep things simple and highlight the main points.
In our last edition of Praise News, we mentioned the winners for the best attendance for the holiday program: Angel, Margaret and Esther. They all enjoyed a wonderful time at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Bright Addo, one of our older students also enjoyed the day with us. Thank you Brigitte de Ronde for sponsoring the entire event, which included a tasty meal. We arrived home rather late, but fulfilled.

Reading Month @ Children of the Light!

Reading month is well under way. This year, we started a little earlier with the hope that many of the children will develop a lifelong love for reading. We began this program on Saturday, 18th May, and it will end with a grand finale on Saturday, 29th June.
How it works: the children are to read as many pages as they can. Dependent readers have to have someone listen to them read. We welcome volunteers to help us with this task. The theme for this year is 'Dive into Reading,' and the theme memory verse is 1 Corinthians 9:24. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Sports Day!

We had a fabulous Sports Day on 1st June, thanks to staff member Sarah Moxon. To conclude the event, we were blessed with a guest speaker, Mr. Adu Amankwa Opoku. He talked to the children about taking their education seriously and being respectful. The children enjoyed lunch with a delicious chocolate drink sponsored by TopChoco , followed by a frozen yogurt sponsored by Brigitte.

Save the Bees!

The 20th of May marked "World Bee Day." To raise awareness and help these amazing little insects, we planted flower seeds and taught the children all about bees and there importance. A variety of posters were made.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Our branch in Northern Ghana!

Currently, Jeanette and Brigitte (volunteer) are visiting and working at our branch in Northern Ghana with CotL staff Silas and Lawrence. It's been a busy time with classes everyday. Brigitte has also been fitting in one-to-one lessons with a few children. They even managed to fit in an overpopulated Sunday School class with a bunch of delightful, beautifully dressed, loud children.
A big thank you to two International Schools in Accra: Lincoln Community School and American International School, for collecting their scrap paper for us. A large amount of the recent load was sent up to our branch and is helping us in so many ways.

Look what's ahead!

Our regular classes continue in all locations, and on Saturday, 22nd June, we will be holding a Duafe Sisterhood Program at the Learning Centre in Kitase, organised and sponsored by One Seed . We are looking forward to a great day ahead.
As already mentioned we will be holding the finale for the "Reading Month" at the Learning Centre on 29th June 2024.
In the next newsletter, we will also update you on everything that has been planted at the centre. With lots of rain, everything is growing well.

Message from Jeanette!

I am pictured here with a group of Fulani children. Yesterday evening, Silas and I visited this remote village (over an hour by motorbike from Dibisi) at their request to start classes for their children. We had already been working with three of the children pictured before they moved to the other side of the river. We have a number of purchases to make this happen, but I believe the provision will come miraculously.
On a final note, I thank God Almighty for absolutely everything, and I thank all who support us. May God richly bless you all.
