Reading Program Finale!
On 29th June, we held the finale for our reading program, and it was a blast! The photo below shows the winners for the most pages read during the 6-week challenge. Thanks to Pat May (Jeanette's mum), Bill Brown (Jeanette's brother), and Liza Brown (Jeanette's sister-in-law) for donating leveled early readers that were sent from Australia. These readers helped the children make great strides in their reading. We also thank Querida' and Glenn Read, Top Choco Ghana, Flora Tissue, Tango Prim Wash, for their recent donations in kind, which enabled us to give out great prizes and party packs to all reading participants. All was packed in a cool bag donated by M & Nick now known as Ms_Beads_Afrik.

Close to 100 children attended the celebration.

Duafe Sisterhood Program!
We were recently blessed with a visit from Start from Ghana and One Seed, who held a Duafe Sisterhood Program at the centre. We had 25 teen girls attend. They were divided into small groups and covered three topics: menstrual hygiene, sex education and mental health. The girls also enjoyed a time of sharing and dancing. After the event, they all received a gift pack. Thank you Start from Ghana, One Seed, and all your volunteers for a successful day.

Farewell to our volunteer!
We recently said farewell to our wonderful volunteer, Brigitte de Ronde. Brigitte spent three months with us, and we are so thankful for all her help. She assisted us with numerous tasks.
|
The good news is that we haven't completely said goodbye. We invited Brigitte to join our Board, and she accepted. Brigitte, welcome aboard!

Sports Day!
Last Saturday, we had a fabulous 'Sports Day.' The children had a lot of fun. Before the event, we held classes to complete their project work and prepare the children for the Mathematics Competition taking place on Saturday, 13th July, at the Learning Centre in Kitase, E/R, and the Learning Centre in Dibisi, NE/R.

There is never a dull moment here.

Let's do our best to do our best!
We recently sent 57 kg of plastic bottles to Lynamps Enterprise for recycling. It was a journey to get it there, but we did it. Thank you to John Ashun, who tied and retied the load on the bumpy road. Let us all think about what we are buying, and avoid single-use packaging.

Our branch in Northern Ghana!
By God's grace, our branch in Northern Ghana is thriving. Our two teachers, Silas Azong and Lawrence Bingo, are doing a great job of administering fun, educational classes. The children are enjoying every minute and improving in all areas. Our new group of Fulani children (pictured below, top left) that we started with this month are very excited to learn.

Africa Study & Bible Time!
We have slowed down our African study at both centres. Instead of covering a new country every week, we now focus on two countries a month. The last two countries learned about were Benin and Botswana. We continue with our twice-a-month Bible memory verse. In the last lesson, we focused on the story of Luke 2, where twelve-year-old Jesus amazed the teachers. The memory verse was Luke 2:52. It was a great study, and we all learned a lot.

#ActForChange - Shoprite!
We are excited to announce that we recently received a 400-litre polytank donation from Shoprite, Accra Mall, specifically for our small farm. The project with Shoprite is called 'Act For Change.' We have now planted many pepper seedlings, tomatoes, ginger, and turmeric. This produce is already proving beneficial for us. Thank you Shoprite!

Look what's ahead!
Next month, we have another announcement to make regarding a recent donation we received from the New Zealand Embassy. Once everything is in place, we will share the news.
|
As mentioned earlier, we will be holding the "Mathematics Competition" at both of our centres. Kitase, E/R, and Dibisi, NE/R, on 13th July 2024.
|
Following this program, regular classes will resume, and we will begin planning for our 19th Anniversary celebration on 7th August.
