PRAISE NEWS

Edition 53 - February 2024

We continue to put smiles on faces!

One more person was added to the New Zealand team in January, Grace Coe (back left). Grace and Jeanette have been friends for over 30 years. It was such a blessing to have Grace here. Would you believe Grace came over with a chainsaw? This will be used to cut back the branches from the big trees that get too close to the centre. Thank you, Grace! Grace also brought school and art supplies, further enriching our resources.
This wonderful team made a recent trip to Northern Ghana. At the airport, they met up with Soldier Stephen, who is actually a past student of Children of the Light. Stephen helped organize the road travel.

It's Black History Month!

February marks 'Black History Month'. At Children of the Light, the children are currently working on projects about prominent black people. These projects will be presented on a day set aside for the presentations. Below, Kwame Elijah is working on his Frederick Douglass project.

Old jeans to cool bags!

Look at what Reusable Bags Gh turned into: cool drawstring backpacks! Thank you to Geodrill for sponsoring this fantastic project. We have a total of 300 bags to distribute, and as you see below, the distribution has already begun.

The pavilion is complete!

We're thrilled to announce that the construction of the small pavilion is finished. Don't you just love the paintwork? The pavilion is now ready to be used for various activities and events. We extend our gratitude to all those who contributed to this project and helped make it a success.

Macrame lessons are taking place at the centre

Asantewa (Jeanette's daughter) has always been a big part of Children of the Light. She was one of the founding children and, as she grew, became a volunteer in the organization. Now she is back for a little while, volunteering again. This time, she is teaching macrame. Those who are learning are excited to learn this skill. Alongside her work as a physiotherapist and as a mother of two, she also runs a small business called Asantewa's Creations, with 10% of all profits going to Children of the Light. Do check out her website to see her beautiful creations. By supporting Asantewa's Creations you are also supporting us.

The rainbow is God's Promise - Genesis 9:13

The children at our branch in the North have recently enjoyed lessons on learning the colours of the rainbow while also focusing on the letter Rr. With this, we connected the wonderful story of Noah's Ark and took the opportunity to explain the importance of being obedient.

Look what's ahead!

We continue to plan towards engaging activities for our students. Our plan is to have all Black History projects completed by the end of February and do the presentation the beginning of March. During this time, regular classes will continue as usual, with a focus on rocks for the younger students and ancient Egypt for the older students.
We have not yet completed with the distribution of the colourful hygiene parcels. Will highlight this in our next newsletter.

Message from Jeanette

Since our last newsletter, it has been all go. As mentioned earlier, a group of us made a trip to Northern Ghana. We traveled many miles and also reached our branch in Dibisi. We all had a memorable time, meeting many people on our journey.
I'm grateful for our work in the North. The children are enjoying the classes and are doing incredibly well.
I take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports us. May God bless and keep you, may His face shine upon you, and may He give you peace.
