Earth Day @ Children of the Light!
This year, we celebrated 'Earth Day' by planting a tree at our centre in the East and another one near our small library and pavilion in the North. The children joined the teachers and created some great posters. We also take this opportunity to welcome our volunteer, Brigitte de Ronde, from Christchurch, New Zealand. It was Brigitte who planted the 'Miracle Berry' seedling at the centre with John Bingo on 'Earth Day.'

Teens Program!
Our Teens Program in March, with speaker, Paulett Opoku, was a great success. We had a good turnout, and the topic discussed was 'Media Hazards.' After the discussion, the teens enjoyed a delicious refreshment of cookies, bread, and Topchoco. Thank you to Mrs. Opoku and TopChoco for your support.

Save the Frogs!
We made a point to educate the children on the importance of these amphibians. They created posters to commemorate 'Save the Frogs Day.' The presence of these little creatures indicates a healthy ecosystem. Let's all find ways to keep our water bodies clean and surround ourselves with greenery to save the frogs!

Sports Day!
The 'Sports Day' held on Saturday, 4th May, was a huge success with almost 40 children in attendance. The boys enjoyed playing football, while the girls played some sort of basketball/netball game. They soon tired of that and switched to ampe (Ghanaian game). All ended with a sausage sizzle provided by Brigitte and a delicious drink sponsored by TOP CHOCO. Jeanette finished with a Bible lesson on the Parable of the lost coin (Luke 15: 8-10). We had lost a netball shirt, so this provided a perfect moment to explain that there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.

Additionally, we announced the winners for best attendance for the holiday program: Angel, Margaret, and Esther. Their prize will be mentioned in our next edition.

Africa Project!
The the last edition of Praise News, we mentioned the Africa Project we started. After completing Algeria and Tunisia, we moved on to learn about the next four countries, one per week: Morocco, Western Sahara, Libya, and Egypt. We are all learning so much. Did you know that there is an Ancient City, Leptis Magna, that was found buried beneath layers of sand dunes in Libya? Absolutely amazing!

Bible Memory Verses!
Another project we have embarked on is learning Bible memory verses. A verse is selected to be learned over a two-week period. During the first week, the children prepare a poster and learn the verse in their local dialect. In the second week, the same verse is learned in English. This project is also helping the children with their reading.

Look what's ahead!
Our regular classes continue in all locations. A teens program will be held at the centre this month. We are also busy planting tomatoes, peppers, ginger, turmeric, and corn on the land. The rain has arrived! More about that in our next edition. 'World Bee Day' is on the 20th of May. The plan is to prepare projects and plant flowers everywhere. This coming Saturday, we will start our month of reading at the centre in Kitase, E/R. Jeanette and Brigitte are also planning a trip to our branch in Northern Ghana.

Message from Jeanette!
I'm pictured here with Brigitte and Maganui also from Christchurch, NZ, who lives here in Ghana. We are at the ANZAC commemoration service that was held at Christiansborg War Cemetery in Accra. There was a great turnout of Kiwis this year. It was a very moving service followed by a generous breakfast hosted at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner.
