Children of the Light is a registered charitable organisation that has been operating in Ghana, West Africa, since 2005. We have a passion to help children break out of the harsh cycle of inadequate education and poverty so that they may grow to reach their full potential.
Our organisation runs year-round educational programs, for children aged 4 to 16 years in one-on-one and small-group learning settings. In addition, children also enjoy numerous special programs which include language arts, performing and fine arts, social studies, mathematics and science.
Jeanette Mary Brown Opoku was born and raised in New Zealand; she has lived in Ghana since 1994 and has three children. For many years, she worked with international schools at the same time running the CotL program.
In January 2015, she took on a full-time managerial/teaching position with CotL. It is her desire and that of CotL, for all children to have a fulfilled and happy childhood, to acquire the skills needed to reach their full potential, and, in return, be inspired to give back to humanity and the world at large.
CotL is managed by a Board of Directors/Management Committee. This Management Committee meets at least four times a year to discuss and make decisions on pertinent issues on the table. The decisions are made by the management team based on CotL’s Governing Document and the monthly Calendar of Events.
